To Whom It May Concern,

While working with Michelle Sherman and Illuminating Humankindness, I have gained a new perspective on WHY I am doing what I am doing. Michelle has reshaped my perspective on the job hunt, allowing me to refresh my search and begin anew.

I have been searching for employment in the design field for two years and counting after graduating from college with a visual communications degree. In my past experiences with career coaching, I have noticed a strict focus on analytic and technical aspects of the job hunt–resume analysis, cover letter vetting, etc. This can be helpful in many fields, but I have not found this to be true in the creative field. At the beginning of our coaching, Michelle worked with me to tighten loose ends on my resume, add more/better information, and make statements more concise. Although generally very important in a job search, this was not the focus of our conversations.

We began with my intentionality towards why I design. We discussed where I would like to be in my career and how to get there. We then focused on the job hunt’s aspect–how to reach out to peers, gain connections, and ultimately conduct myself with these connections. Michelle provided me with mock interview questions, prompting me to think about how I would behave in these situations. When the stress of an interview is in full swing, it is crucial to have these fundamentals on lock.

Where I believe Michelle excels the most is with human connection. In a sea of similar applications/resumes and AI analysis, the personality truly helps one stand out. Getting a foot in the door is the most crucial step in the process, and Michelle has provided me with that footing. In addition to teaching me how to make and foster these connections, Michelle has provided me with direct connections to further my job hunt.

My work with Michelle Sherman and Illuminating Humankindness has resulted in an incredibly well-rounded and fruitful coaching experience that I feel confident in. Michelle has given me the tools I need to unlock success within myself.
